In the bus today, on my way back from work (this has nothing to do with the pictures...), I heard an American man speaking on his cell phone. It's amazing how comforting a familiar accent can sound and how nice it is to understand a sentence without having to listen carefully with full on concentration !

A few weeks ago we drove to the coast...

It's been chilly in Mexico these last few days...

like about 50°- 60° (F) (10-15° celcius) in the morning...

Some mornings, I wonder if i'm really feeling the temperature right.

I see people wearing gloves, hats, scarfs covering there nose, snow coats...

I wear a vest and feel okay..

Temperature choc, definitely.

El color de tu ropa...

Today, my mexicain friend asked me why I always wore the same colors... I must have made a funny face as he went on explaining that almost everyday I wore either gray or black.

Mierda... The vocabulary to answer that question was not on the list of words I knew ! How was I supposed to see that one coming !

I really wanted to tell him all about the difference between light grey, dark gray, charcoal, dark brown, black... and how, yes indeed, a lot of my clothes were in those tones. I also wanted to add that I did own a pair of red pants and blue pants (not jeans) and a red dress and a pink one.... I also wanted to comment on his sweater...

All I was able to say was something that probably sounded like "yes, i like black. also, i have color clothes but not i can work with them"

Then I remembered I was in Mexico, and that COLOR is the key word !! Just check out this video... not that many people are wearing black.

I guess the next step to becoming more like una nativa is to add color to my wardrobe... That might be the hardest thing yet ;)

Mexico's Monument to the Revolution... my mexican friend told me Pancho Villa's remains were burried there.

Rainy Day in the City

I guess the weather in Mexico City is the same as in all other places :
it chooses the week end to bring on the rain !

The difference though, is that in Marseille when it rains, everyone stays in.
Here, no one seemed bothered and everyone kept on going !

We walked around the Old Center and the Zocalo for awhile...

.. but we ended up in a Starbucks with hot cup of coffee !

It was too tempting not to !

Dancing in Coyoacan

We were walking around Coyoacan in the South of Mexico City and just like that we found ourselves in the middle of Sunday afternoon dancing... :)

Agua de Jamaica !!

Agua de Jamaica is probably one of the reasons I came back to Mexico... I tried to make it on my own after tasting it two years ago but it just never tasted the same...

You can't just buy it in a bottle, it has to come from a vendor on the street like in the picture above... somehow that makes it taste a million times better !

Well we found one on Sunday and it was the best I've ever had !

About a dollar, less than a euro, for that huge american size cup ... made my day :)

According to my dear friend Wiki, it's called Hibiscus tea in English and it's "the infusion made from the calyces (sepals) of the Hibiscus sabdariffa flower, an herbal tea drink consumed both hot and cold by people around the world."

All I know is that I plan on drinking an unreasonable amount while I'm here !

We arrived in Mexico a few days ago... and the weather is amazing !

I'll try to write as often as possible, mostly i'll be posting pictures and videos (if I can upload them!) of places I go to, things I see, or just life in Mexico City..

About the name of this blog.. "Que rico" means "this is good" or "que c'est bon" in French. It is used to describe food for example. When I was at the airport in Marseille, waiting to board, I ran into a friend of mine that I hadn't seen in over 2 years. She loves Mexico and has travelled here several times. Well, to make a long story short, she told me : "just remember to say "Que rico". And I have to say, I have heard that more than once since I've been here !

Let's say it's the first expression I've learnt in Mexico.

(My goal is to learn Spanish while I'm here... and I've still got a long way to go !)

I'm going back to Mexico!
I found a 6 months internship over there... hopefully i'll learn spanish during my time there :)

We leave in less than a month.. on January 5th!

I can't wait to be able to eat Mexican food everyday, take millions of pictures, go to all kinds of local markets and concerts ...
